Types of uPVC window
Lots of designs. Popular models include:
uPVC sash windows: traditional look, smooth mechanisms, replicate timber appearance
Casement: highly heat efficient, very secure, many options
Tilt and turn: inward-opening makes cleaning simple, ventilate the room with secure tilt
Range of technical, structural characteristics, such as:
Glazing: opt for triple glazing for warmth and energy efficiency
Framing: decide your favourite look – traditional or contemporary, number of openings, panes, Georgian bars (between panes or external), balanced sightlines, etc.
Once you’ve chosen the style, you can then consider finer details. Will you choose two-tone: one colour outside, and another one inside? This is helpful in areas where the council has strict regulations and won’t allow any changes externally, or when you have rendering or brickwork you want to match, which is different to your internal decor. Possibilities include:
Woodgrain finishes in any shade give more of a timber frame look, ideal for particular properties in historic neighbourhoods.

The work that Fittra did for me was a full house renovation – this did not include any new build or extension work but it did include moving a number of internal load bearing walls and extending external openings to install large sliding doors. The work was reasonably complex structurally as the upper floor is steel beam and concrete block construction. Externally all windows and doors were changed, guttering and fascias were changed and a new tiled deck constructed to give an outside/inside feel. Internally, walls were moved, new door openings created or widened to give a modern open plan look and feel.Read More
“Fittra completed a rear extension, loft conversion and full refurbishment of our house in Ealing late last year. This included new bathrooms, heating system (including underfloor heating), electrics and plumbing. When obtaining quotes, Fittra’s prices were in the middle of the three companies who came back to us with costs, but the fact that it was fully itemised (unlike the other costs we received) gave us piece of mind that we knew exactly what we were getting for our money. “Read More
“Can’t speak highly enough of Fittra and the job they did. They completed a rear extension, side return and loft extension and pretty much a full refurbishment of our house and garden in SW London. They not only did an incredible job, but they were also great to work with too. Vadym and Ivan’s team were incredibly efficient and hardworking and really amenable and collaborative. I have recommended them to a few friends subsequently, and will continue to do so.”
Team at Fittra possesses all the attributes necessary to be an excellent contractor: they know their market extremely well; they are diligent, responsive, and yet very understanding with their clients. They are very professional and offer cost saving alternatives when possible. The thing that has impressed me the most is the professionalism, knowledge and helpfulness of all the workers.
“We did our house fully renovation last year July 2019 – December 2019 with Fittra. We are very pleased with the results – our new kitchen (rear extension with lantern roof light), loft conversion, hardwood flooring, underfloor heating, tiling and etc.. Ivan and his team are truly professional. They finished the job with timely manner and customer satisfaction. Their breakdown quotes are easy to understand and easy to work with. We are highly recommended for Ivan, Igor and the team. Great job!!!”

The property was completely rebranded with organic and rustic designs, infiltrated with contemporary features. A full refurbishment, rear extension and L-shaped dormer transformed this house. This refurbishment project was absolutely thrilling to accomplish, with a solid team of interior designers and a delightful, intelligible client. Although the 1980s house was structurally complex, with heavy concrete planks in the original structure, as opposed to traditional wood, our team managed to support the existing structures and integrate new features to modernise the […]

This project focused on renovating the terraced house by adding a rear extension and converting the loft. Aluminium is also much stronger than uPVC and can last up to 45 years with little to no maintenance. Lasting between 20-30 years, modern uPVC windows are strong but not as strong as aluminium.
Your best bet is to plan your window replacement for a time of year when the weather will be warm, ideally in the spring or early summer.
Signs that your double-glazed windows or doors may need replacing include:
Leaks, letting water in.
They allow excessive amounts of noise in.
The uPVC is yellowing or cracking.
There is visible damage, particularly to the seals.
They are difficult to open, close and lock, or are sticking.
